My journey towards psychotherapy
I guide individuals towards inner peace and clarity by integrating traditional psychotherapy with spiritual insight and mindfulness practices, helping them heal and transcend past limitations to rediscover their inherent potential.
Before becoming a therapist, I enjoyed a successful career in the business world. Despite my success, I felt a pull towards deeper understanding and connection with others. This pull led me to a committed meditation practice as a Zen student, which profoundly transformed my outlook and path. Inspired by the clarity and peace I discovered, I became trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and taught meditation in hospital settings, universities, and private groups. Eventually I decided to return to academia to deepen my ability to help others. I earned a Master of Science in Social Work with a Clinical Concentration from the University of Missouri, focusing on integrating my growing interest in mindfulness and healing into a professional framework.
Philosophy and Practice
As a therapist, my practice is deeply informed by nearly two decades as a committed Zen student. This background in Zen and mindfulness underpins my empathetic, presence-centered approach to therapy. I work with individuals from all spiritual orientations, valuing each person's unique perspective and life experience.
I am a qualified teacher of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and teach meditation in hospital settings, universities, and private groups. My sessions, whether individual or group, emphasize the cultivation of an attentive, compassionate space where clients can explore and grow.
Therapeutic Techniques
I am dedicated to my own ongoing professional development and regularly attend trainings in new therapeutic approaches including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), and Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), among others. My approach draws heavily from attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, and both experiential and psychodynamic therapies.
This integrative approach allows me to offer tailored, effective therapy that addresses the complexities of the human experience, aiming to bring about meaningful and lasting change in my clients' lives.
