Psychedelic Preparation and Integration

See The Mind provides extended support, guidance, and accountability in your journey work with psychedelics. Whether you are healing from the past, tuning more fully into your present, or setting up for a better future, having proper education, guidance, accountability, and integration support is invaluable for this kind of process.

“It is no great accomplishment to hear a voice in your head. The accomplishment is to make sure it's telling you the truth.”

— Terrence McKenna

How are psychedelic preparation and integration sessions different from therapy?

Psychedelic preparation and integration sessions are specifically designed to prepare individuals for and help them process experiences that occur during psychedelic journeys, which is not typically a focus in individual psychotherapy. Preparation involves setting intentions, managing expectations, and developing coping strategies for potential emotional responses. Integration sessions then focus on interpreting and incorporating the insights gained from the psychedelic experience into everyday life.

Set and Setting

Understanding "set and setting" is crucial in preparing for psychedelic therapy. "Set" refers to your mental state, encompassing intentions, expectations, and current emotional status. "Setting" means the physical and social environment of the experience. Although the actual psychedelic journeying will occur under the care of a specialist, we prepare you to enter this experience with a mindset and environment that promote therapeutic effectiveness.

Intentions

Setting clear intentions is a vital step in the preparation phase. We work together to define clear goals for what you hope to achieve through the experience, whether it’s healing from psychological distress, exploring spiritual questions, or resolving specific emotional issues. These intentions will guide your journey, focusing your mind’s explorative powers.

Integration

The integration phase is crucial after your psychedelic experience. It involves making sense of the insights gained during the journey and tapping into the body’s inner healing intelligence. This process helps to interpret and assimilate the profound insights into your daily life. We focus on strategies to apply these insights effectively, ensuring that the benefits of the experience are lasting and meaningful. This approach leverages the innate wisdom revealed during the psychedelic journey, supporting a deep and sustained transformation.

Expectations and Fears

It’s natural to approach psychedelic therapy with both expectations and fears. In our preparatory sessions, we explore these emotions, helping you to articulate and understand them. We spend time addressing any fears, worries, or anxieties, and together identify how we can approach these should they arise during treatment. This includes an exploration of trauma and how to cultivate practices to move through such material when it comes up.

I have specialized in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) since 2019.

I have extensive knowledge of psychedelic states and the healing capacity they open up.  I can provide preparation and integration for psychedelic experiences of all kinds. Actual session work is only done with ketamine at this time. I do not provide or direct people to psychedelic work that is not yet legal in the United States.

I am currently enrolled in the California Institute of Integral Studies Psychedelic-assisted Therapy and Research program.
